OUR SERVICES

Advice and support on the full range of employment law matters

Employment Law Advice

We provide straight talking solution focused advice that help you solve your people based matters.

You can choose from ad hoc advice, a retainer, specific project work and defending employment tribunal claims – we can do it all supporting your organisations employment law needs.

What is right for you?

We offer options where you can pay as you go. We can agree a fixed fee for a specific project or you can buy hours in advance to include just advice or a bundle for advice and an annual handbook / policy review and update.

We can work effectively as your outsourced ER support so that authorised managers can contact us directly for advice.

Workplace Investigations

We not only support your teams / managers with advice during investigations, but we also regularly conduct disciplinary and grievance investigations on behalf of employers. For educational establishments these include serious safeguarding matters and parental complaints, and for commercial organisations we do everything from alleged harassment, fraud, general misconduct and anything else in between.

This frees up your management time as we can often work a lot more quickly to turnaround an investigation process and leave your management teams doing their day jobs

Conducting a workplace investigation takes particular skills remembering that this is not a criminal investigation but there are potentially serious implications for the business, and the individual(s) involved.

If you want to up-skill your managers then we also support you with advice during investigations and a popular training session that we conduct is investigation training.

Workplace Mediations

Our one-day mediation service is a quick and cost-effective, and importantly confidential, method of resolving disputes in the workplace. Whether it is an actual or potential dispute between two work colleagues, a manager and subordinate, or an issue amongst a team as a whole workplace mediation focuses on all parties to get a resolution that they want and supports them to move forward with an amicable and mutually agreed solution. Team disputes may take 2 or 3 days depending on the size of the team and issues involved.

They can be used to resolve things like:

We are CMC accredited trained workplace mediators so follow best practice in workplace mediations. The benefits for your organisation are potentially huge and can include:

Don’t wait for something big to happen before thinking about bringing in an external independent mediator as the earlier an issue is tackled the easier it is to resolve.

Bespoke Training

We regularly provide training for our clients whether that is a whole staff group overview to a specific team in a specialist area. Every training module we deliver is bespoke to your organisation ensuring that we amend the training to match:

We love interactive sessions to get people involved but also know that role play can be uncomfortable for some participants. We always strive to bring situations and scenarios to life.

Defending Employment Tribunal Proceedings

Our team are experienced in defending employers in employment tribunal proceedings for all types of claims including unfair dismissal, discrimination, TUPE, employment status, unlawful deductions and whistleblowing to name the most common types of claims our clients face.

We work in a way to ensure that at all times our client understands the potential costs and risks of the claim including likely timescales. All advocacy at court hearings is conducted by the team so there is no farming your claim out to an unknown 3rd party at any time but especially not at the important point of the hearing itself.

Our Fees

Defence costs will vary with factors influencing the cost including type and complexity of the claims, the number of witnesses, the length of the hearing and even down to whether the Claimant is legally represented or not.

As an estimate we would suggest that you budget the following sums if a tribunal claim is brought against you (note that these are not fixed fees):

Simple

Plan
£ 7,500 – 10,000 (+vat)
From a half day to two-day hearing

Medium

Plan
£ 11,500 – 15,000 (+vat)
Between three and five day hearing

High

Plan
£ 1,500 per day above 15,000 (+vat)
Longer than five day hearing

If you have legal expense insurance (or RPA if you are a school) we often work for our clients under their policy and for some clients we are even named as the specific advisors approved under their policies.

Contracts and Policy Drafting

Whether you need a review of your contracts and policies or a full redraft we can help.

Employment law is constantly changing and it is essential that your policies and contracts meet those requirements. We always suggest at least an annual review of your policies / employee handbook following any changes which usually happen in April each year. If your handbook or policy is out of date and you are faced with a claim from an employee it can make things a lot more difficult and could even result in the loss of that claim.

For clients on our retainer packages an annual handbook review and update is built into the services.
